Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today approved a new incentive scheme for providing training to prospective candidates to appear before SSB for selection as 'Commissioned Officers' in Armed forces.
Stating this here, an official spokesperson said that total 174 vacancies for NCC (C) certificate holders are available every year for commissioning into the Armed forces as officers.
These included, in the Army wing, 100 vacancies at Officer Training Academy (OTA) Chennai, 50 vacancies at Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, eight vacancies for women at OTA Chennai.
Similarly, four vacancies are available in Indian Air Force (IAF) and 12 vacancies in Navy, he said.
The spokesperson said that under the 'Haryana Rashtra Prahari Protsahan Yojna', two Service Selection Board (SSB) coaching hubs, one based at Delhi and the other at Chandigarh, would facilitate the training of the cadets which would be duly selected by a board comprising three officers from Armed forces and one officer from the state government.
While the Chandigarh hub would be managed by the NCC group headquarter at Ambala, the Delhi hub would be managed by group headquarter at Rohtak.
He said that the prospective cadets selected by the board would be divided into two groups and 14 days training would be imparted each year in January and July respectively.
The approved list of coaching centres for the hubs would be provided by the Additional Director General, NCC Directorate, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh in consultation with the Group Commander NCC Ambala and Rohtak, he added.
He said that the anticipated cost of SSB Training for each cadet would be about Rs 15,000 which includes lodging and boarding of the cadets for the fortnight long training.
This would be directly paid to the coaching hubs by Haryana Higher Education department on completion of the training on certification by the NCC headquarters.
About 80 to 100 cadets are likely to undertake this training twice a year and an expenditure of about Rs 24 lakh to Rs 30 lakh would be incurred, he further added.
At present, the performance of NCC Cadets from the state for selection as 'Commissioned Officers' in this category has not been good as post to application ratio is around 1:84 for men and that for women is 1:138, he said.
While the applicant cadets from Haryana are mentally sharp and physically robust with a high level of motivation, they are not succeeding in the selection because of their poor communication skills especially in english and lack of general awareness and grooming, he said.
