Expressing deep concern over the alleged rape of a six-year-old student in Bangalore and other incidents in schools affilitated to it, Union Human Resource Development Ministry has sought a detailed report from Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).
The ministry also reminded the CISCE that Karnataka government had recommended that it withdraw the affiliation given to Vibgyor High School, where the minor was allegedly raped, and asked what action it had taken.
"The ministry has felt that safety and security of school children in any school system is a critical priority. It is deeply disturbing that such a serious incident has happened. It has also noted the reports of other incidents in some other schools affiliated with the CISCE," it said in a statement.
Citing its various guidelines and laws, the HRD ministry has highlighted the role of the school in the entire matter.
Two gymnastics instructors have been arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of the six-year-old girl on school premises on July 2. The incident had sparked protests in Bangalore.
