The Indian Air Force officially announced here today that the CBI arrested a Junior Engineer (Civil) yesterday, after the case was brought to the notice of IAF Jamnagar station authorities with the concurrence of South Western Air Command (SWAC), Gandhinagar.
Yesterday, the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Subedar Junior Engineer (Civil) of the IAF's Military Engineering Service (MES) after raids at his house yielded Rs 8 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.45 lakh, which are allegedly assets disproportionate to his income.
"He (the man who was arrested yesterday) is a Subedar JE (Civil) of the Military Engineering Service (MES). He is under Garrison Engineer (GE) Jamnagar, which comes under the Engineering-in-Chief (E-in-C) branch. He is not an Indian Air Force Engineering Officer," an Indian Air Force statement said.
"He is from the Military Engineering Services (MES) and not an Indian Air Force officer or personnel. He works under the Garrison Engineer (GE) of Air Force Station Jamnagar. This set up comes under the E-in-C branch of the Indian Army," the IAF statement said.
The CBI's ACB team has brought the arrested MES engineer to Gandhiangar for questioning, CBI sources said.
