IAS officer's mother killed by speeding vehicle in Chankyapuri

In a hit and run case, a speeding vehicle mowed down the mother of a senior IAS officer in Lutyens Delhi.
Nirmal Devi (76) was out for a walk around 6 PM yesterday when an unidentified vehicle hit her while taking a right turn on Madhu Limaye Marg in Chanakyapuri, the police said.
The driver then fled from the scene.
Devi's son is IAS officer Arun Baroka, who is currently posted as joint secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, they added. Baroka also held the charge of Delhi's PWD secretary in 2015.
The elderly woman was rushed to Primus Hospital by her family members but she succumbed to injuries during treatment.

The police have started investigating the matter but so far, have not found any eyewitnesses of the accident or clue about the vehicle.

They are also trying to find CCTV footage from the area.
A senior police officer, however, said the car was speeding.
Senior police officers say that speeding is rampant in the Chanakyapuri area. Since there are no traffic signals, people tend to drive quite fast, leading to accidents.
Officials also say that many offices and embassies in the area do not have CCTV cameras installed at the entrance gates which sometimes, makes it difficult to find clues in accident cases.
