This comes against the backdrop of many ICAI members who use electronic filing account with the income tax department not submitting the Permanent Account Number (PAN) details to the institute.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), set up by an Act of Parliament, is an apex body for chartered accountants.
"Filing account of the members, who have not provided their PAN details to the institute but are using e-filing account with the income tax department, will be blocked by the income tax authorities after April 30, 2017 in case the same is not updated," ICAI said.
Citing the income tax department, the institute said due to mismatch in the name in the central database of ICAI and the PAN database, the e-filing account in such cases would also be blocked.
"... There are still many members who have not yet provided their PAN details in the central database of ICAI," the communication, dated April 19, said.
ICAI has asked the members in practice to update their PAN details latest by April 27.
