IFFK to discuss merits of Censorship on Dec 11

: At a time when the debate on the relevance of film censorship is underway in the country, a symposium will discuss its merits and demerits here on December 11, on the sidelines of the upcoming International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Eminent filmmaker and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Shyam Benegal will deliver the keynote address at the PK Nair Symposium, Kerala Chalachitra Academy, the organiser of the week-long movie gala, which gets underway on December 9, said.
The symposium is expected to create a venue for spectators to sort out their apprehensions related to the Benegal committee report, which had been constituted to create a holistic framework for certification of films, they said.
Documentary filmmaker Rakesh Sharma, Censor Board ex-CEO Pankaja Thakur, former member Anjum Rajabali, Award winning filmmaker Deepa Dhanraj, directors B Unnikrishnan and Jayan Cherian and film critic VC Harris will also attend the symposium moderated by film critic CS Venkiteswaran, they said.
A seminar on 'Celebrating 50 Years: The Cinema of Adoor Gopalakrishnan' will also be held on December 12 as a part of the IFFK.
Film journalist Uma Da Cunha and actor Mehelli Modi and Saibal Chatterjee will be among the participants in the event, in which film critic N K Raghavenda will be the keynote speaker, they said.
Another seminar on 'The myth of low budget film making in the light of the spectacular' will be held on December 14.
Oscar winner Rasool Pookutty, directors Saeed Mirza and Lenin Rajendran and cinematographer Madhu Ambat will also participate, Academy sources added.
