IIT-Guwahati Director Gautam Biswas today exhorted the graduates of Indian Institute of Information Technology in the state capital to use their knowledge and skills for the development of the country, find ways to help the poor and break the chain of poverty.
Knowledge is recognised as a key resource for achieving economic growth and social development, he said at the first convocation ceremony of IIIT-G.
"The youth should create livelihood opportunities for people so that no community or race is left behind. Create a more caring and compassionate world," he urged the institute's graduates of 2017 and 2018 batches.
Knowledge revolution has restructured manufacturing processes, redefined relations among other nations, and refined the methods of governance, Biswas, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, said.
The country has to make advancements though technology and the youths have a vital role to play in bringing about this change, he asserted.
"With your knowledge, your intelligence, your passion, and your bravery you will bring about positive changes in the society. If you are prepared to think big and act in timely manner with conviction, you will emerge as a leader," the director told the tech graduates.
Congratulating the degree-holders, S Ramadora, the chairman of IIIT-G Board of Governors, said technology was evolving very fast in today's world.
The IIIT-G is taking initiatives to overhaul curriculum for making its graduates ready for the job industry, he said.
Ramadora also took a note of the fact that the medal winners of both the batches were women.
"India is a nation where women can break the glass ceiling and be a beacon of light for others," he added.
Altogether, 56 students from the two batches were awarded their degrees at the convocation ceremony today, the director of the institute, Gautam Barua, said in his report.
