The Tamil Nadu government today submitted in the Madras High Court that all illegal banners erected in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of ruling AIADMK founder late M G Ramachandran at Tiruchirappalli will be removed forthwith.
Advocate-General Vijay Narayanan also submitted that 220 other banners which were erected with the permission of the authorities concerned would be removed after the function was over today.
The function was scheduled to be held later in the evening.
A PIL was filed by social activist "Traffic" Ramaswamy seeking action against police officials in Tiruchirappalli, who had failed to remove illegal banners erected as part of the celebrations today.
When the matter came up in the morning before the division bench comprising Justice M M Sundresh and Justice M Sundar, the A-G submitted that permission was granted for erecting 220 banners, including 20 by various government departments, as it is a state function.
He submitted that if any illegal banners were erected, that would be removed forthwith.
Those banners erected with permission would be removed immediately after the function is over, he added.
The bench, after recording the submission of the A-G, posted the matter to Monday for filing a compliance report.
