The government has asked the Delhi Metro to improve cleanliness in the areas surrounding its stations.
Urban Development Secretary Rajiv Gauba gave the direction while reviewing various aspects of functioning of the metro with DMRC MD Mangu Singh and other senior officials.
The secretary appreciated the DMRC for its focus on ensuring punctuality, safety, rolling stock utilisation and hygiene inside the stations.
Gauba, however, suggested that attention needs to be given to cleanliness in the vicinity of the metro stations, though it is the responsibility of the civic agencies.
He also suggested the MD to have regular meetings with respective municipal commissioners and senior police officials to ensure cleanliness and hassle-free entry and exit for metro users.

Gauba also suggested the DMRC to engage with the large number of metro users for making them partners in improving the brand value of Delhi Metro.

He suggested that an effective social media platform could be created and handled by professionals for better results.
In his presentation, Singh highlighted the efforts being made to sustain the positive brand value of Delhi Metro.
He said that over 99 per cent punctuality in services is being continuously maintained and there has been a 17 per cent decline in the incidents affecting punctuality since 2014.
