Kerala has asked the Centre to include the 25 lakh strong migrant labour force in the state under food supply chain when the Food Security Bill is introduced, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said today.
The workforce from outside state now has no ration cards, but government wants to include them also under the system when the Food Security Bill is introduced. The Centre has welcomed the state move', he told reporters here during his cabinet briefing.
Chandy said the apprehension that most people in Kerala would not get rice at a lower price when the Bill comes into force has been cleared.
"Those who don't come under the purview of law will continue to get rice at the present rate even if the bill comes into force",he said.
As per the new estimate 54 per cent of the total population in Kerala would come out of the bill's purview and this section would continue to get rice at the present rate, he said.
On other cabinet decisions, Chandy said e-Office file processing system would be introduced in all departments of the Secretariat.
The software developed by National Informatics Centre would be a most modern processing system, he said, adding a File Tracking System is already in place.
