A mobile application that will help the tourists around the globe to explore Indian destinations at their own pace and convenience has been launched by Tourism Ministry here today.
Incredible India Walking Tours, a self-guided tour application presently covers 16 Indian cities including Delhi, Agra, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, Amritsar, Mumbai, Surat, Patna and Goa.
"The Ministry of Tourism has launched the mobile application to enable its users to independently travel and experience 16 cities in the country," Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan said.
The facility was available on Blackberry phones earlier and now it can be viewed on Android smartphones also, he added.
The app enables users to sight-see free of cost at their own pace and convenience, with the help of walking tours curated by travel experts.
With India becoming the world's second largest mobile market with about 900 million subscribers, Tourism Ministry hopes the app would be in good use for tourists.
The facility in collaboration with Genesys International Corporation would be extended to 36 cities by December 2015.
Dewan said the response has been very good since it's launch on Blackberry. "Our aim is to facilitate tourists to choose their destination, hotel, shopping place, eatery and street to be taken among others."
He said at the moment the facility is available in English but later on more international languages like French, Chinese, Portugese, Spanish, Italian and Hindi would be used for the programme.
