An FIR has been filed against Independent candidate Hema Malini and her husband on charges of demanding Rs 5 crore for acting as a "dummy candidate" in the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency, where Bollywood actor Hema Malini is also in the fray on a BJP ticket.
The FIR against the Independent candidate and her husband Ram Kishan was lodged at Sadar Bazar police station under section 171(e) (punishment for bribery) of the IPC, Deputy Collector-cum-Assistant Returning Officer Anjani Kumar Singh said today.
The FIR comes after a sting operation by a private news channel showed that the Independent candidate and her husband had been demanding Rs 5 crore from a yet-to-be-identified person for acting as a "dummy candidate".
"...During pre-polling stage, Ram Kishan, in the presence of Independent candidate Hema Malini, has demanded a sum of Rs 5 crore from someone, in lieu of his wife acting as a dummy candidate. Since it is a clear-cut violation of the Model Code of Conduct, both have been booked under IPC section 171(e)," Singh said.
He said the bargain was taking place in a car at an undisclosed location.
When contacted, Sadar Bazar police station SHO Shashi Pal Singh Yadav confirmed that an FIR had been filed against Independent candidate Hema Malini, her husband and others.
