"In 2011-12, the number of scholarships under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme was only 50. Now, from April 1, it will become 150, which will be a 200 per cent increase," Indian Ambassador to Oman J S Mukul said.
He urged the Omani government and institutes to utilise to the maximum extent the programmes offered by India, the Times of Oman reported.
The ITEC Programme, a bilateral assistance programme run by the Indian government, is a demand-driven programme that focuses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technological cooperation.
"Courses offered through the ITEC are quite beneficial for the Omanis. Learning experience in India was quite useful. It is helping me a lot in my current job. I urge more Omanis to make use of these kinds of scholarships," said Munir Said Al Breiki, a next generation network expert at Omantel.
Munir did an advanced course in next generation network in India.
"I was surprised by the dedication of the teachers in India. Resource crunch was not hitting the education system. The education system stands apart when it comes to quality," said Ruqaiyah Al Tobi, who works with Information Technology Authority (ITA) Oman, and did a three-month course through the ITEC scholarship in India.
