India and Japan today stressed on enhancing space cooperation and working together on global challenges like climate change.
The two countries also signed three agreements in the science and technology sector to prepare an exchange programme for their young scientists and promote joint research.
"The two prime ministers acknowledged that outer space is an ever-expanding frontier of human endeavour and welcomed the deepening of cooperation between the space agencies of the two countries in the field of earth observation, satellite based navigation, space sciences and lunar exploration," a joint statement released after the delegation-level talks said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe welcomed the signing of the MoU between the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in November last year.
The two leaders also noted the progress made in IT and Internet of Things (IoT) cooperation through the bilateral Joint Working Group on IT and Electronics.
They welcomed the successful holding of the 9th India- Japan Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation in January 2017 in Delhi.
