Shringla, a 1984-batch IFS officer, prior to his new appointment served as India's ambassador to Thailand. He succeeds Pankaj Saran who left last year to be India's' new envoy in Moscow.
"My mandate is to deepen and strengthen Dhaka-Delhi ties for the greater interest of the people of two countries," Shringla said on his arrival at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport this afternoon.
He said leaders of both the countries have already taken many "very intensive and flourishing decisions" that need to be implemented quickly.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit in June last year, India and Bangladesh signed a number of agreements to spur economic engagement and enhance connectivity so that India's northeast could be connected to Southeast Asia. As per an MoU on the economic zone, Bangladesh will offer Special Economic Zones to Indian companies.
