India seeks tariff sops for domestic firms from Mozambique

India has sought further support in tariff and non-tariff measures from the Mozambique government to facilitate achievement economies of scale by Indian companies present in that country.
Mozambique Transport Minister Carlos Alberto Fortes Mesquita called on Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh here today.
Singh stressed that the rich natural resources of the African nation and India's demand potential could be of mutual benefit to both the nations, the steel ministry said in a statement.
The Steel Minister sought further support from the Mozambique government through tariff and non-tariff measures for facilitating achievement of economies of scale by Indian companies like ICVL present there.

"... Mesquita assured all possible help from the Mozambique government. He remarked that in spite of challenging geopolitical environment, the Mozambique government is very clear of its long-term vision and the strategy to achieve it," the statement said.
He remarked that energy and infrastructure (transport, public works) are two of the four priority sectors identified by their government based on synergies, the other two being agriculture and tourism.
