I understand that relief and rescue operation are ongoing and I am confident that your majesty's government and the people of Japan will overcome this adversity with courage and fortitude.
"Please accept my sympathies for the injured and all those whose property has been destroyed or washed away," Mukherjee said in a message to Emperor Akihito of Japan.
"I do hope that the situation will improve and return to normalcy very soon," Mukherjee said.
