India, US can feel some joy in successful Pak elections: Gore

The just concluded general elections in Pakistan is a time for both the US and India to feel some joy and take some pride in the hope that democracy would continue to march forward in the South Asian country, former US Vice President Al Gore has said.
"Both India and the United States share their commitment to democracy," he said while addressing the fourth US-India Energy Partnership Summit here organised by TERI in association with the Yale University and FICCI.
"I think it is a fitting occasion, to celebrate democracy in Pakistan. This is a wonderful event," Gore said in his remarks at the top of his speech.

"We do know that for the first time, since partition, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, democratic elections, whatever its shortcomings has resulted in peaceful transfer of power - from one elected civilian government to the other," he said.
"So both India and the US can feel some joy and take some pride in the hope that democracy continues to march forward," Gore said.
