An Indian-American nurse has been arrested in the US for allegedly assaulting a 92-year-old woman suffering from dementia, according to a media report.
Hansmattie Singh, 47, a nurse at Clermont Heath and Rehab in Illinois, allegedly slapped a resident with dementia that left her with a bloody scratch under her nose. The patient confirmed with the police that Singh had hit her.
When police questioned Singh, she denied she struck the woman. Singh said the woman needed to be force-fed due to low blood sugar and she could not recall if she had to hold the woman's face when feeding her.
A police investigation determined Singh grabbed the woman's face firm enough during a feeding for her fingernails to leave marks or scratches on her face, leading to her arrest on Monday, South Lake Press reported.
Singh was later released from the Lake County jail after posting a USD 2,000 bond. The rehab center's director of nursing said Singh would be sacked from her job.
