Indian History Congress begins in Malda

About 1200 delegates from all over the country and abroad gathered here at the 76th session of Indian History Congress which began at Gour Banga University here today.
The Convenor and Controller of University examinations Santanu Das said the participants included 50 foreign delegates from the US, the UK, Egypt, Italy and Iran.
Eminent historian Prof Irfan Habib declared Prof K Paddayya of Pune as the new General President of the Congress.
Paddyaya in his address said debate and discussion were the continuous process in history.
West Bengal Minister, Food Processing and Horticulture and local MLA Krishnendu Choudhury said Malda had seen influences of different religions.
Minister of Refugee, Relief and Rehabilitation and another local MLA Sabitri Mitra was also present.
