Deepak Singh had migrated as an international student in 2008 to study community welfare course.
However, changes in the Skilled Occupations List during his course time made him ineligible for permanent residency.
Later on, Singh got married to an Australian woman and was currently living on a temporary visa in Australia.
Singh had applied for permanent residency (PR) on the basis of being married to an Australian citizen.
According to community member Jasvinder Sidhu who knew him, Singh was under acute stress about being deported to India and his work rights were also withdrawn, sbs.Com.Au reported.
"His application was rejected in 2012 and then he fought a long battle. He was at the last level of his fight against the immigration decision and was due to appear in court to challenge the decision," Sidhu said.
"On Sunday morning he woke up and dressed up as if he was going for work. He left without eating anything and within 30 minutes police called to inform that he was found dead in his car," he said.
