Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today said that it was a matter of concern that none of the Indian universities were there in the list of top 200 world educational institutions.
"There are 700 universities, 35,000 colleges and over two crore students studying here in India. However, it is matter of concern that none of these institutions are in the list of top 200 world universities," Naik said while addressing Lucknow University convocation here.
Naik, who is the Chancellor of state universities, said that at a recent meeting with Vice Chancellors and University officials of the state he had raised the matter of using "gowns and caps" during convocations.
"These caps are uncomfortable while I give medals to the recipients. How can there be improvement in it. What's the use of them, I don't know," he said.
Asking students to follow the four mantra for success, Naik said that by smiling and appreciating, one could win hearts but at the same time they should not belittle others and always try to better themselves.
The Governor on the occasion asked Lucknow University Vice Chancellor SB Nimse to give convocation CDs to 40,000 students, who were given degrees in absentia.
He also conferred honorary LLD degree on Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud.
