Indians in Singapore have celebrated a community integration day with fun fare, cultural shows, a golf tourney and a gala dinner.
Former Singapore diplomat and president of the Singapore Indian Association, K Kesavapany, was honored for his efforts in promoting integration among the diverse Indian community here.
The city state's former President S R Nathan presented the award to Kesavapany, who is also the Governor on the Singapore International Foundation.
The award recognised Kesavapany's many contributions towards integration in the Indian community, especially the expatriates and new citizens with second and third generation Singapore Indians.
A painting by Patna-born Neeraj Goswami, Play, was sold to the highest bidder for 6,500 Singapore dollars as part of the charitable work and fund raising.
Goswami is one of the five modern Indian masters who exhibited their paintings in Singapore.
An autographed copy of Nathan's latest memoir '50 Stories From My Life' was also auctioned for 2,000 Singapore dollars.
Deputy Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Rudra Gaurav Shresth, and business executives from India working in Singapore joined some 300 members of the Indian community in Singapore for the Integration Dinner.
Sumarth Davivedi from Seagull Marine Pte Ltd took the challenge trophy of the Integration Golf Cup, which was introduced last year.
About 120 golfers, men and women, took part in the golfing tourney held at the Singapore Island country Club.
The golf and gala events were presented by UBS along with Singapore's Indian language newspaper, Tamil Murasu, and weekly table! which carries news and features on the Indian communities both from Singapore and India.
