Indian medium-pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting November 2, due to an injury.
Maharashtra medium-pacer Dhawal Kulkarni has replaced Shami in the 15-member Indian squad to be led by Virat Kohli, which has been announced for the first three ODIs, said a BCCI release.
It is learnt that the Bengal medium-pacer has been advised 10 days of rest following his injury in the right toe.
Dhawal, who made his ODI debut against England this year, will be eager to make an impression after a good showing in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final this month.
The West Zone medium-pacer picked up seven wickets in the match (7-90), albeit in a losing cause against East Zone in the four-day game at Lahli.
