A day after the body of a 23-year-old female software professional was found here, the doctor who medically examined her body today said that injuries found on her body and private parts were caused by a blunt object.
Medical reports suggested that the injuries on Esther Anuhya were caused by a blunt object, T P Lahane, Dean of government-run J J Hospital said.
When he was asked if the report indicated any sort of sexual assault on her, the doctor said, "The cause of death and sexual assault, if there was any, can be ascertained only through chemical analysis which is being done by forensic experts".
Employed at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Anuhya went missing from the city on January 4, until her body was discovered in suburban Kanjurmarg.
Her family had blamed the Mumbai police for its "sheer apathy" towards the case.
According to the police, Anuhya had boarded the Vishakapatnam-LTT Express train from Vijayawada on January 4 for Mumbai.
She was returning to Mumbai after her Christmas holidays but she did not reach her hostel in suburban Andheri.
Initially, her father lodged a missing complaint at Vijayawada railway police station on January 5, after which he came to Mumbai and lodged a similar complaint at the Kurla railway police station.
Preliminary investigations established that the techie went missing after reaching Mumbai, the police said.
Anuhya's aunt Sunita Thumma (39), who resides in Andheri, claimed that the tragedy occured because of sheer negligence and apathy of the police.
