BJP today took a dig at Samajwadi Party (SP), saying its "inner contradictions" stood exposed as its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has expressed closeness to Amar Singh while another leader Azam Khan has dubbed the expelled leader as "garbage".

"It's (SP's) inner contradictions have come out in the open. While Mulayam expresses closeness to Amar, Azam terms the expelled leader as 'garbage'," BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here about the ruling party.

His comments came against the backdrop of Mulayam Singh showing closeness to Amar Singh, once a powerful SP leader who had been expelled from the party some years back. Singh was seen in proximity of Mulayam Singh during the latter's birthday celebrations a few days back.

Pathak said it was clear that everything is not right within SP. "It's own leaders are indulging in allegation and counter allegation, which the SP supremo is not able to control," he added.

He said it can be easily imagined how safe the interest of the people was when the ruling party was suffering from "inner contradictions".

Taking a swipe at the SP chief, the BJP spokesman said: "At times, the SP supremo expresses closeness to Amar Singh, organises caste conferences and at times he takes U-turn on Mahagatbandhan (of JDU-RJD-Congress). It indicates that the party is losing confidence in CM Akhilesh Yadav."

He claimed that it has now become clear that SP was not in a position to contest the 2017 Assembly elections under the leadership of Akhilesh and was looking for alternatives.
