Innocent villagers booked in Rewari riot, says Mahapanchayat

A mahapanchayat, comprising representatives from 52 villages, strongly criticised police move to book 700 persons in the violence at Dharuhera on August 30, saying many innocents have been falsely implicated.
The mahapanchayat held yesterday decided that villagers would go in for a hunger strike if district administration does not remove names of "all innocent villagers" from the FIR within next ten days, a panchayat member said.
Sarpanch of Kapriwas village Capt (retd) Jagdish Chander, presided over the mahapanchayat, which was also attended by Chiranjeev Rao, son of Haryana's Power Minister Ajay Singh Yadav and some BJP, HJC and INLD leaders.

Stating that his father Ajay Singh Yadav was in touch with the district police chief in this connection, Chiranjeev Rao assured the villagers that no penal action would be taken against the innocent villagers.
Police had booked villagers for attempt to murder, dacoity, causing damage by fire, rioting, obstruction and assault after irate mob set over three dozen vehicles on fire when a truck, allegedly laden with beef, was found parked on the Jaipur-Delhi Highway on August 30.
