Inspector Tarique Ahmad was the IIC of Balasore town police station when the brothers, S K Sadique and S K Sabir of Pathan Mahalla, against whom arrest warrants were issued, allegedly committed suicide by setting themselves afire here on the night of November 25, 2012.
The duo doused themselves with kerosene and set themselves on fire when police went to nab them.
They succumbed to their injuries later.
The brothers were wanted in a petty case, the family members had alleged the duo set themselves on fire as the police forcibly entered their house.
Ahmad was subsequently suspended and was wanted by the Crime Branch for a probe, which he was avoiding.
Today he was arrested from his residence at Khurda and forwarded to the SDJM court in Balasore for trial.
SDJM Balasore, Minashki Priyadarsini, rejected Ahmad's bail plea, against whom a case has been made under relevant sections of the IPC.
He was sent to 14-days judicial custody.
