Inspector suspended

A police inspector, accused of
sexually harassing a woman head constable, was today placed under suspension, sources here said.
Melur Inspector of Police, Avudaiyappan, was suspended after an inquiry by a committee headed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing), V Shymala Devi, they said.
He was placed under suspension by DIG Anandhkumar Somali.
The Inspector appeared before the committee yesterday. The charge against the Inspector is that he had sexually assaulted the head constable between 2008 and 2013 when they worked together at Aruppukottai.
He has filed an anticipatory bail application before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court as a case has been registered against him for sexual harassment and atrocities against woman, sources said.
