According to IRCTC, 209 passengers had opted for travel insurance while booking tickets as of November 19. Of these, 128 passengers were eligible for insurance but 50 tickets were cancelled.
The three private insurers -- ICICI Lombard, Royal Sundaram and Shriram -- have said they have received very few claims so far.
"All the three non-life insurance firms have promised me that they would settle the eligible claims within three-four days," Manocha told PTI.
"They are only waiting for death certificate and cancelled cheque to settle the claims," he added.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) said it has extended concessions and relaxations to policyholders affected by the mishap.
On the non-life side, Only 78 passengers of the ill-fated train are eligible to claim insurance money, out of whom five died in the accident, IRCTC has said. In addition, seven cases of injury and hospitalisation and eight minor injuries.
The passengers of Indore-Patna Express (those who opted for insurance) were covered by Royal Sundaram (32), Shriram (14) and ICICI Lombard (32). The claim for the five death cases has been provisionally approved by the insurance companies.
Only one passenger had filled up the nominee details for insurance. Remaining four claim settlements will be made with the legal heir as soon as the documents are provided.
