The 50-year-old actress said TV has moved on from decked up looks to relatable contents.
"This is my full-fledged role after a long time. I was doing small roles in few shows. I strongly feel TV has changed now. The content in TV has become more mature and relatable.
"It has taken a leap from loads of make-up to nice and simpler looks. I am very excited about doing 'Shastri Sisters'," Sudha, who was last seen in 'Mata ki Chowki'(2008), told PTI.
"I have been wanting to do a substantial role for quite sometime. When they offered me this role which is positive and well-defined, I jumped on it. The character is modern and yet authoritative," she said.
Sudha opted for the show because she could connect to the subject of it.
"I am a regular follower of the show. It attracts me because I also have sisters. The subject is very nostalgic and has loads of sentimental values attached to it. All of the actors are brilliant on the show," she said.
"I shifted to South because I was getting typecast here, I was judging three reality shows there and also doing the Malayalam version of the TV show 'Saath Nibhaana Saathiya'. I am playing the role of Kokila Modi in it," she said.
Asked if TV actresses have small shelf life, Sudha said, "I don't think so. If we talk about character actors they are always in demand. Actress like Aruna Irani will always be needed in a script. Arunaji started of her career when she was eight-year-old and now also she is going strong on TV.
