The traffickers brought the opium from Myanmar for supply to Delhi and its neighbouring states, police said.
They were arrested from Kashmiri Gate, said DCP of Special Cell Rajiv Ranjan.
Musfique Alam and Dipti Purtti were arrested on the evening of June 28 based on specific inputs and 10 kg opium was seized from the duo, he said.
During interrogation, they disclosed that they are part of a big international narcotic syndicate and are trafficking drugs in Delhi and UP from North-Eastern states since several years, the officer said, adding, the accused have been procuring opium from Dimapur(Nagaland)-based supplier Chandan.
Both Musfique and Rahees were earlier arrested by police in connection with auto-lifting cases in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, Ranjan said.
Dipti, who belonged to a poor family in Assam, revealed that Chandan received supply of opium and heroin from neighboring country Myanmar through porous borders near Manipur.
He sent opium and heroin to UP and Delhi through his carriers. Dipti has been working as his carrier since last several months, the officer said.
It has also come to notice that notorious drug suppliers of Manipur and Nagaland are sending big consignments of heroin, opium and other contraband to various parts of the country including opium growing areas of Bareilly, Badaun, Barabanki, Mandsore and Jhalawar in UP, MP and Rajasthan, he said.
The carriers would get Rs 10,000 for supply of each consignment to its destination. Further investigation to identify and arrest the remaining persons is in progress, he added.
