Introduce mobile banking in rural areas: Cong MP

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Anu Tandon said most workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) were deprived of timely payment of dues which were made through banks that did not have branches in rural areas.

"These workers, many of them women, have to travel huge distances to cities, stand in queues at the bank and then, may be, come back again the next day to get the payment. In the process, they also lose a day's earning," she said.

Tandon, who was supported by many members cutting across party lines, made a strong plea for introduction of mobile banks in rural areas to help MNREGA workers get timely payment for their work.
