Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham is quoted today by the official IRNA news agency as saying Kerry raised the issue with Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the nuclear talks in Geneva this week.
Afkham says Jason Rezaian's case is proceeding along an "independent path" through the Iranian judicial system.
The State Department says it has repeatedly raised the case during past talks about a deal to curb Iran's nuclear capacity.
Iran has not disclosed what charges Rezaian, an Iranian- American national, faces.
