Iris recognition system in all ration shops in TL from Aug 15

Telangana government today said it would implement the Iris recognition system for distribution of commodities at all Fair Price Shops in the state in a phased manner from August 15.

An official release said the State Civil Supplies Department would initially start this program in Peddapalli, Macherial, Sircilla and Yadadri districts.

Currently the government supplies commodities in ration shops for beneficiaries usingfingerprint identification.

However, in some cases, mainly with the elderly and women, the Epos machines fail to recognise them due to rashes in their fingers or the fingerprints fading away, it said.

"At the review meeting, the Commissioner said Iris would be introduced in all 17,200 ration shops state wide step-by-step.

From August 15, it will be introduced in Peddapalli, Mancherial, Siriclla and Yadadri districts.

In the second phase from September 1, it would be implemented in Siddipet, Jagitial and Mahabubnagar districts and then from September 25 in the remaining districts of Telangana," it said.
