Supreme Court today sought Haryana government's response to an allegation that it was developing industrial model township (IMT) on 3,364 acres of land in villages in Sonepat district in complete violation of the National Capital Region Plan.
A bench comprising Chief Justice P Sathasivam and Justice N V Ramana issued notices to the state government and its concerned departments on a PIL seeking implementation of the Plan in consonance with the object of National Capital Region Planning Board, Act 1985.
However, the bench declined to go into the issue of a plea for a direction to quash the 2010 notifications relating to acquisition of the alleged fertile agricultural land for IMT in villages Gopalpur, Pipli, Saidpur, Kundal, Rampur, Ferozepur, Bangar, Nizampur-Khud, Sohati, Prahaladpur and Barona of tehsil Kharkhauda in Sonepat district.
The PIL filed by farmers body from Kharkhauda, Bhumi Bachao Sangarsh Samiti, through advocate Jasbir Singh Mallik, submitted that the objection filed by the organisation was dismissed on the premise that the land is acquired to set up industries which will generate employment and revenue to the state.
