J-K DGP condoles death of policeman

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar has expressed deep grief over the demise of head constable Sanjewan Singh, who was martyred during a gun battle with the militants at Tral in south Kashmir yesterday.
Conveying his sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Rajendra said brave Sanjewan Singh sacrificed his life for the cause of integrity of the nation and safety of the people.
The organisation is proud of his bravery in which two militants were killed, he said.
He said that the head constable, along with other security personnel, raided the house, where the militants were hiding in.
During an encounter both the militants were gunned down but the brave Sanjewan and an Army officer Col. Rai received bullet injuries, resulting to their martyrdom, he said.
Born in 1976 at Khelanni in District Doda, Sanjewan joined Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2004. He is survived by his father Shri Dharam Singh, a retired teacher, mother, wife and a 3 years old son Laksh.
The brave head constable was involved in anti-insurgency operations in Awantipore for last nine years and participated in various successful operations against the militants.
The cremation of the late head constable was performed at his native village today. Besides Deputy Commissioner, Doda, senior officers from police, Army, civil administration and a large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral ceremony of Singh.
