Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has suggested organising "package tours" for various income groups of tourists for ensuring rapid growth of tourism in the state.
"Package tours suiting the pockets of different categories of tourists would require to be organised for securing the rapid growth of this important sector of the state's economy," Vohra said while interacting with a Federation of Association of Tour operators of Jammu delegation at Raj Bhavan here.
The seven-member delegation led by chairman of the Federation, Rajesh Gupta, called on the Governor yesterday and handed over an ambulance to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).
Vohra, who is also chairman of the SASB, lauded the gesture and asked his Principal Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board Navin K Choudhary to ensure that the vehicle is utilised for the transportation of pilgrims who may fall sick or be involved in accidents.
The Governor said government agencies, travel trade and other stakeholders have to act in unison and take all the required measures for significantly promoting tourism in the state, which has a vast potential for generating economic activity and employment avenues.
Referring to the tremendous potential of adventure tourism in all the three regions of the state, particularly of white water rafting, Vohra stressed on the need of trained staff and life-saving equipment being available with all those who organise such activities.
