Jammu and Kashmir state government employees today announced they will observe strike on July 8 to protest against the National Conference-Congress coalition regime's failure to fulfil their demands.
"We will observe strike on July 8 to protest against the government for its failure to fulfil our demands," senior leader of the agitating workers' Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), Mohd Gafoor Dar, told reporters here.
Employees in Jammu will hold a rally at the Divisional Commissioner's office, while in Srinagar they will gherao the civil secretariat, he added.
"If the government fails to implement the agreement inked with the employees on September 15, 2011, JCC will (be forced to) intensify the agitation," Dar said.
JCC, which represents over 4.5 lakh state government employees, is demanding enhancement in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years and regularisation of daily wagers, ad hoc and contractual workers in the different government departments.
