Jammu and Kashmir government today dispensed the services of 63 of its employees, against whom there were charges of corruption, as a part of the process to remove deadwood from the administration.
"The government has decided to retire 63 employees whose performance is not up to the mark or who have integrity issues and face charges of corruption," Minister of Education, Naeem Akhtar said here.
"This is not a emergency procedure or something new but involves invoking the existing clause of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Rules (JKCSR), as per which the Government has to assess performance of an officer/official after he/she completes 48 years of age or 22 years of service," he said.
"Out of the 63 officials whose services have been terminated, 25 involve trap cases by various anti-graft bodies, 11 have established cases of disproportionate assets against them and 27 are miscellaneous cases," he said.
Giving a breakup, the minister said the list includes 14 employees of Revenue Department , five officers each in the departments of General Administration Department, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control and Home.
The list also includes four officers each from School Education Department, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department and Rural Development Department.
The list includes names of some of the senior officers in the administration including two Chief Engineers, four Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officers, a Director General Libraries and Research, three Tehsildars, a chief town planner from Jammu, Managing Director of State Road Transport Corporation and three doctors.
Akhtar said the government was trying to send a message to the employees that "no body, who is not performing well, is in safe hands".
"This list is just a warning shot. More names are coming and this will be a permanent feature," he said.
He said the government will confiscate such disproportionate assets of the corrupt officials.
