J&K guv calls for effective security in jails

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today called for effective security arrangements in the jails in the state.
DG (Prisons) Dilbag Singh called on Governor Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Speaking to DG Singh, the governor stressed on the importance of ensuring effective security arrangements in the jails. He insisted that the jails must ensure welfare of prisoners, function according to the Jail Manual, and house adequate medical arrangements, an official statement said.
Singh briefed the governor about his recent visits to various jails to review their functioning.
He also discussed issues related to adequacy of the number and existing capacity of the jails, and the gaps in their day-to-day administration, the statement said.

The DG also informed Vohra about prisoner welfare programmes being run in the jails, it added.
