Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar sanctioned the scholarships for 17 school going children of martyrs, who laid down their lives for bringing peace in the state, an official spokesperson said.
The scholarships for the children studying in different classes for the ongoing academic year 2014-2015 was announced after a meeting of the executive body of Police Parivar Fund, chaired by the DGP at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here, he said.
It was due to their supreme sacrifices that security situation in the State has evolved positively and the sufferings of people on account of violence unleashed by militants have come down, he said.
"Violence left the families of our martyrs especially the children in a desperate condition and the organisation realised its prime responsibility to come forward and provide a helping hand in the form of financial assistance to these families," he added.
Also free education is provided to them in Police Public Schools established in the State, Kumar added.
