J'khand leaders hail Murmu's appointment as Governor

Leaders of various political parties of Jharkhand today hailed the appointment of Draupadi Murmu as the Governor of the state describing it as a moment of honour for the Santal community.
"This is a great honour and a moment of pride for Santal community. She is the first Santal to be nominated as Governor in the country," Jharkhand People's Party president Surya Singh Besra said.
"I congratulate Mrs Murmu and wish her a great tenure ahead," Besra said.
JMM vice-president and former minister Champai Soren said, "We are happy about Murmu's appointment as Governor. But she has many complicated issues to address."

It has to be seen how she would protect and implement constitutional provisions such as Chotanagpur and Santal Paragana Tenancy Act, Panchyat (extension to scheme area) Act, Forest Act meant to protect the interest of the tribal community, Soren told PTI.
"It is a historical and positive step to nominate Murmu as the Governor of Jharkhand," BJP leader Salkhan Murmu said.

Salkhan Murmu, whose Jharkhand Disom Party merged with BJP in August last year, said the new governor would have to ensure enforcement of constitutional provisions to safeguard the interests of tribals.
Tribal-populated Jharkhand had nine tribal chief ministers in 14 years but none had implemented the constitutional framework meant to protect and promote the tribal community, he said.

Vice-President of Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Mahasabha, Mukesh Birua, welcomed Murmu's appointment but preferred to adopt a 'wait and watch policy' before making any comment.
"We will see how she will address the tribal related issues such as Land Acquisition Bill, Forest Act and other constitutional provisions under 5th Schedule before making any comment," he said.
Draupadi Murmu, a BJP leader from Odisha, has been appointed as Jharkhand Governor yesterday.
