Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff says he agreed to do Ujjwal Chatterjee's 'Swabhumi' because of the real life inspired script.
Jackie, who had made his debut in Bengali cinema with Rituparno Ghosh's 'Antarmahal', said he had long wanted to dub lines in his own voice as that would add more authenticity to the character.
"It was the director's prerogative and I am happy the way my character of the representative of a decaying gentry came across on the screen in 'Antarmahal'. I had wished to do more work with him," Jackie said during the on-location shoot of 'Swabhumi', based on Mahashweta Devi's novel Adhoba.
'Swabhumi', Jackie's fourth Bengali film, made him excited to be a part of it as it revolved around the burning issue of land acquisition. The 56-year-old actor appears as an IPS officer in the film.
One of Jackie's shots in the movie involve visiting an anti-land acquisition movement site, and giving some instructions to the men in uniform in Bengali.
The actor, who said he was aware of the land movement that had rocked Bengal in 2007, is currently doing post-production dubbing to lip-sync the words later.
'Swabhumi' is being directed and partly produced by 'Escape from Taliban' and 'White Mischief' director Ujjwal Chatterjee.
Actress-model Dimpy Mahajan has done an item number in 'Swabhumi' which also stars Tapas Paul and Debashree Roy.
