The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained disrupted for over one hour after hundreds of inhabitants of Jagti township in the outskirts of Jammu blocked the road in support of their demand for uninterrupted power supply, police said here today.
The agitating protesters, including women and children, raised slogans against the government and blocked the National Highway at Nagrota late last night.
"Nearly 500 to 600 people from Jagti Township, including women and children, blocked the national highway for over one hour late last night. They were demanding uninterrupted power supply to the township," SHO Nagrota, Omprakash Chib, said.
The police first tried to convince them to clear the highway but when they refused to do so the police dispersed them forcibly, he added.
"We had to disperse them forcibly. We assured them that their demands will be raised before the concerned authorities," he added.
