Jaipur power distributor's JEN held in electricity theft case

In a first of its kind case, a junior engineer of Jaipur's power distributor has been arrested for allegedly helping a man steal electricity by illegally providing him a transformer, police said today.
Mahesh Naama, a junior engineer (JEN) in Jaipur Vidutt Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) in Kanwas subdivision of Kota, was arrested yesterday and produced before a court that sent him to judicial custody till January 31, said Shalendra Singh, SHO, Electricity police station of Kota.
It is the first instance of arrest of JEN level official in a case of electricity theft in Hadouti region.
While he was posted in Sangod subdivision, Vigilance teams from Jaipur seized an illegal power transformer in a field at Mandaap village in Sangod subdivision in August last year.
One Brijraj Nagar of the village had obtained illegal electric connection and installed the power transformer in his field on 11 KV electric line and was using submersible pump.
Nagar was arrested and the transformer was seized.
Executive Engineer of the department NM Garaseya lodged an FIR in this connection at electric police station, Singh said.
During the investigation, Nama's role surfaced in providing the power transformer to Nagar and in assisting him in power theft. Nama was arrested after his role was confirmed, the officer said.
