Jakhar asks Badal to safeguard interest of kinnow growers

Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar today asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to ensure that the "monopolistic" transport unions are not allowed to harm interests of kinnow growers.
In a letter written to Badal, Jakhar said kinnow growers in Abohar area of Punjab are facing a lot of hardship and non-cooperation from both truck unions and canter unions on which they are dependent for the transport of their produce.
"Due to monopolistic character of these unions, the poor farmers are suffering pecuniary losses unbearable by them," he said.
Jakhar said at present, farmers are in the process of plucking kinnows to sell into various parts of the country.

"But due to monopolistic transport unions they mistreat farmers and traders and obstruct free movement of produce," he said.
He alleged, "the misbehaviour of these transport Unions have started scaring away traders proving extremely detrimental to the interests of farmer and local economy in general."
Jakhar asked Badal to intervene in the matter to ensure that "arm twisting" and "pressure tactics" of these transport unions should not cause losses to poor farmers.
