The 46-year-old actor and his producing partner Steve Chasman is believed to have obtained the rights to JJ Connolly's crime novel on which the screenplay will be based on, reported Deadline.
The 'Parker' star is expected to play the same nameless character who was trying to dodge the bullet at the end of the first film.
In the next chapter, the man is looking for a quiet place on a beach to live. But his retirement plan is ruined when he gets involved with drug deals, money laundering and high-tech electronic fraud.
Statham was last seen in 'Hummingbird' and will next appear in 'Homefront'.
