Yesterday, Jayalalithaa condoled the death of Raja, but avoided announcing any relief apprehending that such a step might attract violation of model code of conduct.
However, after getting clarification from electoral authorities that such decisions do not constitute violation of model code, the Chief Minister announced the compensation to Raja.
She also announced Rs one lakh relief each to the kith and kin of families of seven persons who died of asphyxiation in Erode.
