A day after announcing rewards for the Special Investigation Division (SID) personnel who nabbed three terror suspects, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today visited injured Inspector S Lakshmanan at a private hospital and lauded his brave act.
Handing over to his wife a cheque for Rs 15 lakh, being the reward to him, she appreciated the brave act of Lakshmanan at the face of terror in the early morning operation at Puttur on October 5, in which, he was attacked by one of the suspects.
"It is an act of God that you survived.. You have a lot of remaining responsibilities to accomplish while being alive.. You don't have to worry about your children, we are a guarantee for their future. We are all proud of you Mr Lakshmanan," Jayalalithaa told the inspector.
Lakshmanan, who went to the house of the suspects in plain clothes, suffered severe injuries when he was suddenly pulled inside and attacked with sharp weapons during the operation.
She also said, Lakshmanan stood as an example of a model Tamil Nadu policeman, an official release quoted her as saying.
Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan, Home Secretary Dr Niranjan Mardi and Director General of Police K Ramanujam were also present.
Meanwhile, the team of police personnel, who performed the operations at Puttur, along with the DGP, CBCID ADGP Narendra Pal Singh and other senior officials met the Chief Minister at the secretariat.
Jayalalithaa congratulated their service and handed over a cheque for Rs five lakh to CBCID South Zone Superintendent of Police T S Anbu.
Jayalalithaa had yesterday announced the cash rewards to all the personnel SID who were involved in the operation to arrest the three suspects in the 2011 Advani bomb and other important cases. She had also announced that the medical expenses of Lakshmanan would be borne by the state government.
In a major operation, the SID had arrested "Police" Fakhrudin on October 4 and his associates Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik the next day.
